Workshop Description

Substance use… it’s in every culture and has been for all time. Yet today, with substance use on the rise many of us are impacted in ways that are significantly distressing. Work, relationships, health, and mental well-being can all take a hit.

In this session on Substance use, participants explore the diverse substances that take hold of many of us today. What is the hold that opiates, alcohol, cannabis and other pills and medications have on some?

Over 70% of people addicted to substances have an underlying psychological issue or mental health condition. But how do we know if we are using substances or if we are misusing?

In this non-judgmental session we take a closer look at some of the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders. What is my brain is doing to pull me towards substances? This method of coping with life and stress may seem to be effective in the short term but the long-term repercussions are always unwanted.

Finally, we discuss the seemingly impossible task of asking someone about their patterns as well as telling someone about our struggles. Together we see shedding the shame that keeps us from making the human connections can help us get the support we deserve.

This session always brings a robust string of questions that many of us hope to find answers to. Answers that are part of helping family, friends, colleagues, or even self… through today and tomorrow without the shadow that is holding us back from the peace each of us deserves.
